Peter Netzel
Peter (Pete) Netzel was most recently Senior Vice-President of Wal-Mart International with responsibility for all food merchandising and operations outside the United States. He also served on the Wal-Mart Executive Committee and was actively involved with Wal-Mart’s acquisition activities and market research. Pete retired from Wal-Mart in 2005.
In his 17 years with Wal-Mart, Pete has been responsible for leading several key initiatives that have established Wal-Mart as a leading worldwide retailer:
- Development of the Hypermarket/Supercenter concept in the United States, including store layout, productivity standards, organization requirements and private brand development.
- Creating Wal-Mart’s first grocery distribution center
- Developing Wal-Mart’s International food operations including site selection, marketing, and private brand development.
Pete has visited the retail marketplace in 51 different countries over the past 13 years. He is familiar with the operations of leading retailers around the world.
Prior to joining Wal-Mart, Pete held several marketing and merchandising positions with H.E. Butt Company (HEB) where he helped initiate their Superstore concept store and developed the HEB general merchandise private label program. HEB is a leading U.S. food and general merchandise retailer with over $10 billion in annual sales. Pete began his career with Jewel Companies in Chicago, Illinois, where he held various positions and managed several stores.
